  • "glathiairths"

"...the white valleys on Mont Blanc are caused by glathiairths." Dontcha just love PBS?

Got my first batch of food from the community pantry today. They changed it from the last time I was there. Now there is a choice of some of the foods for the recipient. Before you just took whatever they gave you. I was expecting things to be worse there because of the economy and all, but they're actually better there now. I got me a big bag of cooked seafood - scrimps, crab legs and crab patties and chunks of stuff I don't know what it is but it's yummy. I don't get free food when I'm working because, well, it's that old thing about paying your way in life, dignity and not being a social parasite. I've always been qualified though, being as how I've been just slightly above or below the poverty most of my life. So now that I'm retiring, I'll be way below the poverty level plus all those medical bills, so it's time to go to The Lords Pantry. They have lunch there five days a week, so maybe I'll eat there a few days a week. That means I'll get to visit with the crazy homeless people again. See... there's lots to do when I retire.

I don't know about the crab legs though. Them are things that rich people eat. I'm not rich or culturally cultured like them rich folks are, so I haven't been schooled in the eating of the crabs, unless you include the kind that girls have in their crotches. But there's no special technique involved with eating them, they just kinda slide down your throat when you're going down on her...but I digress. I guess I'll break them open and see what's inside them. The crab legs, not the girls, I mean. I already know what's inside girls - yummy stuff.

Well, the weekend's here so you know what that means...time to watch more End of The world as We Know it videos and freak myself out. Have a good Friday night everybody.

    I love crab legs.

They aren't necessarily rich peoples' food.  It depends where you live.  I used to live by the ocean so that stuff was cheap.  I had a crab net/basket-thing and everything.

Rich peoples' food is like sushi, cavier, escargo and organic stuff.  You always know that someone is rich if they have a basket of organic, slithering food.

Due to the fact that my brain doesn't work all of the time, I'll probably be down there with you, but it's easier, and I don't mind it.  Every time that I have anything, I have to give it away, so it's the same reality for me no matter.

Rich people mostly cheat the system. We're just trapped fools.

@Colorsofthenight - One thing I've noticed about being poor is that I never even knew when there was a recession because I never had anything to lose. But then again, I never paid any attention to that stuff 'till I got older.

@runisom48 - I couldn't hold a dime to save my life.  It's easy to take from me.

I know when there's going to be a recession because they try to kill me every time.

They don't go after males as much, so you don't notice it.

@runisom48 - one of the problems that I have is that I'm naturally fat, so they think I'm a pig.  Okay, so it's true, if I'm a normal weight, then I'm starving.

This triggers the movie Cast Away, where Tom Hanks's character learns to catch all the crab he can eat in order to survive as a homeless man. When he is rescued, there is a huge welcoming party. Served at the party is all the seafood (mostly crab) one can eat. // It's a shame that those who hung in there all those years working and earning the bare minimum are cast away once they reach a certain age in some people's eyes. The community pantry is a nice touch of humanity to counteract all that. Even if there are a few crazies (who knows, I may be one .. one day) there, you'll at least have some good stories to share. :) (if that came out all wrong, sorry for my lack of tact).

Hubby and I are far from rich and we love crab legs.  They are pretty cheap here where we live on the coast.

We have three food pantries we will be visiting this month and they give a lot of vegies and fruit. To many hospital bills here too but hey we all live through it and find the day to be an adventure.

@sleekpunk - I did see that movie. Crabs aren't worth the effort  - not much meat for all that cracking and splitting. I may be a crazy at the free dinners too - I could have a stroke and be one of the ones walking around with drool coming out of my mouth babbling about this that and the other.

@Grannys_Place - Oh I know crabs aren't just for rich people. I just like to play ignorant sometimes and make jokes about it, But I did think that when I was younger.

@Colorsofthenight - I put on a hundred pounds of muscle (mostly) from weightlifting during my life. Now that I'm older, I'm trying to lose some of it but I can't because if I eat less I feel like I'm starving to death. I guess it'll be harder than I thought to lose some weight.

I am average and almost poor, but I love crab legs.  Not only the legs, I love the whole crab.
